John Wilson Farrelly

| FARRELLY,
John Wilson, (son of Patrick Farrelly), a Representative from
Pennsylvania; born in Meadville, Crawford County, Pa., July 7, 1809;
received a limited schooling; was graduated from Allegheny College at
Meadville in 1826; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1828 and
commenced practice in Meadville; member of the State senate in 1828;
served in the State house of representatives in 1837; again a member of
the State senate 1838-1842; elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress
(March 4, 1847-March 3, 1849); chairman, Committee on Patents (Thirtieth
Congress); was not a candidate for renomination in 1848; appointed Sixth
Auditor of the Treasury by President Taylor and served from November 5,
1849, until April 9, 1853, when he resigned; engaged in the practice of
law in Meadville, Pa., until his death, December 20, 1860; interment in
Greendale Cemetery.
