Benjamin Baker & S. W. Baker

|
BENJAMIN BAKER (deceased) was a native of
Rensselaer county, N.Y.. born December 3, 1794. He came to Potter county,
Penn., in 1838, and settled in Ulysses township, where he lived until his
death. He married Miss Mabala Cronk, of Hoosick Falls, N. Y., and they had
a family of nine children George B, died at Ulysses in 1887; Andrew, lives
on the old homestead; Phoebe, died in 1864; Esther, the wife of L. G.
Gridley; William, died in infancy; S. W., lives on his farm at Lymansville;
Hiram, died in 1888; Russell, lives in Nebraska, and Mary, the widow of
John Stanley, lives at Cambridge, N. Y.
S. W. BAKER, the fourth son of the family above named, was born at
Williamstown, Mass., April 24, 1836, and was two years old when his
parents moved to Potter county. He worked on the farm with his father
until twenty-one years old, when he went to Port Jervis, N. Y., where he
lived nine years. In 1866 he returned to Ulysses, and lived on the old
homestead several years. In 1872 he worked at lumbering and in 1875 bought
a farm near Lymansville, where he has since lived. Mr. Baker was married
in October, 1862, to Bertha L. Covey, of Broome county, N. Y., and they
have one son, named Benjamin S.
