Alvin P. Zellner

|
ALVIN P. ZELLNER, treasurer of the Allentown School District,
was born in Allentown, September 10, 1843, a son of Jacob and Mira (Beers)
Zellner. He was educated in the public schools, and from 1873 until 1902
was engaged in mercantile pursuits. He has been a stalwart Republican, and
in 1885 was elected a member of common council, of which he was president
for two years. Previous to this, from 1882 to 1885, he was a member of the
board of school controllers from the Seventh Ward. In 1895 he was elected
by the sectional board of the Second Ward to the board of control for a
term of three years. While serving this office in 1896, he was elected
treasurer of the school district, in which office he has continued
faithfully up to the present time. He has proven himself a worthy
custodian of the school district’s funds and an able accountant and
financier. He was one of the first members of the board of health, having
been appointed for a period of five years by Mayor Allison. He is a past
officer of Allen Lodge, No. 71, I. 0. 0. F., and a member of Zion Reformed
Church. On Christmas Day, 1865, he married Mary C. Blank, daughter of
Solomon and Susanna (Stein) Blank.
